PFLAG Springfield/SWMO
PFLAG is an organization of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families, and allies who work together to create an equitable and inclusive world. We lead with love to support families, educate allies, and advocate for just, equitable, and inclusive legislation and policies. Since our founding in 1994, PFLAG Springfield/SWMO has worked to make the Ozarks a better place to live, work, and love.
Provide Support – PFLAG Springfield/SWMO facilitates a monthly online support group for the loved ones of LGBTQ+ folks. We also operate an emergency mental health support fund for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
Offer Education – Each month we host an in-person community building event. These meetings vary from educational – such as presentations on intersex identities or queer history – to social – like picnics and attending the theatre together. We facilitate two scholarship programs for LGBTQ+ people – one to assist in completing the HISET and another Higher Education scholarship. We also educate our neighbors, through our billboard campaign and through participation in community events, panels, and speaking opportunities.
Advocate – PFLAG strives to partner with other local, state, and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable, and just world for the LGBTQ+ community.
