Program Coordinator

  • Grant Funded Position – Funded through 2027 with possibility to extend
  • Salary: $55,000
  • Position Type: Full Time, Salaried
  • Work Environment: Remote/Hybrid in the Springfield, MO metropolitan area with an option for a co-working space. Frequent in-person meetings and community events.

PFLAG Springfield/SWMO is seeking an efficient, passionate program coordinator to join our team and maximize our impact as an organization during a period of growth. The program coordinator will be responsible for developing a new housing program for LGBTQ+ folks in the Springfield metro, with oversight and support from our Executive Director. Additionally, they will spend a portion of their time strengthening other programs and supporting the work of the organization as a whole. Responsibilities will be split approximately 60% for the Housing Initiative and 40% for other duties and responsibilities.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Research existing host home programs across the country
  • Develop a plan for a sustainable host home program suited to the Springfield metro
  • Develop policies and procedures for other housing initiatives – including transitional housing plans and a housing support fund
  • Lead coalition team meetings to gain consensus on housing plan and grow collaboration
  • Collaborate on marketing plan to encourage community participation
  • Collaborate on volunteer recruitment and management – serve as backup to volunteers for our support programs as needed
  • Identify best practices and procedures to inform future programs
  • Create policies and procedures for existing support programs – including our mental health support fund and support groups
  • Perform ongoing administrative work related to the support fund and support groups
  • Represent PFLAG at events, conferences, and other opportunities in order to grow our network and our impact on the LGBTQ+ communities in Springfield and Southwest Missouri region
  • Engage in community advocacy – particularly around issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community’s access to safe affordable housing and mental health care
  • Work closely with Executive Director to strengthen PFLAG Springfield/SWMO as an organization

How you’ll be evaluated:

  • Housing projects are planned and implemented, following the timeline set out by our strategic plan and the grant parameters.
  • Other support programs have been given structure and achieved sustainability
  • Research is done thoroughly and shared with organization leadership and stakeholders thoughtfully
  • Tracking systems have been put in place and are sustainable
  • Collaboration with partner organizations is continued and grown
  • Programs are marketed to volunteers, partners, and to the community – and most importantly to those who could benefit from our services
  • Expenses, program activities, and other records are accurately and transparently recorded
  • The organization’s administrative, operational, community building and logistical activities are supported

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in project creation
  • Good at tracking data and even better at deciding how data should guide decision making
  • Experience working in housing, public health, youth services, or related field
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Firm understanding of procedures that increase efficiency
  • Knowledge of accurate record keeping processes
  • Dedication to LGBTQ+ rights, as well as a commitment to intersectional justice
  • Willingness to learn and a commitment to personal and professional growth

Some of these skills and experiences may be found within a degree program, but we recognize that higher education is not attainable for all. A Bachelor’s Degree OR a minimum of 2 years professional experience would likely provide the necessary qualifications.

PFLAG Springfield/SWMO is a chapter of PFLAG National. Our Mission is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. We accomplish our mission through three program areas – Support, Education, and Advocacy. All three program areas center intentional community building. We are committed to an intersectional approach to justice and both our board and staff are asked to affirm our equity agreement. The organization is led by a dynamic and involved Board of Directors. This position will be our second paid staff member, reporting to our Executive Director.

Hiring Timeline and Process

Transparency is important to us. We will do our best to communicate with all applicants their standing throughout the hiring process. Applications open August 18, 2025 and will close when the position has been filled. We encourage applicants to apply early. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning on August 25, 2025. The hiring process will consist of three stages:

  1. A screening Google Meet interview with our Executive Director – half an hour to go over the role and expectations of the position and answer any questions you may have.
  2. A longer in-person interview with our Executive Director. After this stage, applicants continuing in the process will be asked to provide references. If a candidate is not currently residing in the Southwest Missouri region, a Zoom or Google Meet interview may be arranged instead of an in-person interview.
  3. A meeting with members of our Board of Directors.

Our goal is to have our new hire beginning on October 1, 2025 – but our priority is to find the right fit for this role. Adjustments to the hiring timeline may be made in order to accomplish this priority.
