In partnership with The GLO Center, we are proud to offer the Jim House Scholarship to selected individuals pursuing their HISET (formerly the GED).
Everyone deserves a chance to better themselves, regardless of income restrictions. The Jim House HISET Scholarship is meant to enable LGBTQIA+ folks to get their High School Equivalency Credential so they can take steps into their future– whether that’s attending college, learning a trade, joining the workforce, or just being able to say that they completed their secondary education.
This scholarship is lovingly named after Jim House (1941-2019), an activist and influential member of the LGBTQ+ community in Springfield. Jim played an integral role in the foundation of both the GLO Center and AIDS Project of the Ozarks and was beloved as a mentor and friend.
The Kathryn Munzinger Outstanding Advocate of the Year Award is named after PFLAG National Board Member and former PFLAG Springfield/SWMO President Kathy Munzinger. This award recognizes a member of the LGBTGQ+ community or an ally who has made a significant difference in making the world a more caring, just, and affirming place. It’s one way we recognize the champions in our community. Nominations typically open in December, the recipient is chosen by our Executive Committee in February, and the award is presented in April at our Scholarship and Awards Reception.
