Jim House HISET Scholarship
Jim House HISET Scholarship
We are proud to offer the Jim House GED Scholarship
In partnership with The GLO Center, we are proud to offer the Jim House GED Scholarship to selected individuals pursuing their HISET.
Everyone deserves a chance to better themselves, regardless of income restrictions. The Jim House GED Scholarship is meant to enable LGBTQIA+ folks to get their GED so they can take steps into their future– whether that’s attending college, learning a trade, joining the workforce, or just being able to say that they completed their secondary education.
What the scholarship covers:
All fees associated with taking the HISET exams in an authorized Testing Center. If a testing center is not available in your area, or there are barriers to completing your exams in the testing center, PFLAG Springfield/SWMO and The GLO Center will pay the additional cost to take the exams at home or in a secure location. Additionally, we are allocating an extra $30 per person to help recipients with materials to study, childcare for during the test, or other things that may be necessary, depending on their personal situation
Requirements for the scholarship
- Be a current resident of Missouri’s Barry, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Ozark, Polk, Stone, Taney, Webster, or Wright counties.
- Be a self-identified LGBTQIA+ person.
- 2-3 paragraph essay or 2-minute video outlining what ways you want to impact the world someday positively and why or how this scholarship could benefit your life.
selection
A small committee to determine 10 best essays of qualifying individuals, essays will not be judged based on grammatical errors or organization but on meaning and values portrayed.
